Central Market - New Small Works Series

“Central Market” is an open series of 5”x7” mixed media/alcohol transfers with pen and ink capturing exotic produce, flora, meats and more from my travels through the markets, bazaars and souks from around the globe.  They are matted and ready to frame.

"CORN AND POTATOES" (Bogota) launched the series on March 19th and quickly found a loving home with an artist/art collector down in Tucson, AZ.

"ASSORTED FISH 01" (Tokyo), the 2nd in the series is currently available.  The next work will debut this coming Friday, April 2nd, 2021.

Here's a thumbnail segment - can you guess what it is?

New Small Works Series Coming Soon!

I’m really excited to share my new small works series “Central Market” with you.  Much of my artwork is travel inspired; however, due to Covid-19, my wanderlust has been curtailed and I’ve spent much of the past year going through images from trips past to create new artwork.  One of the more colorful aspects of my travels has been tours through many of the wonderful markets, bazaars and souks from around the world.  Wish I could include the sounds and smells along with the images to give you more of a feel for being there!

“Central Market” is an open series of 5”x7” mixed media/alcohol transfers with pen and ink capturing exotic produce, flora, meats and more.  They are matted and ready to frame. Each individual work will preview first on Facebook (www.facebook.com/ArtworksByJudith.com) and Instagram (judithrothensteinputzer) starting in mid-March, 2021.

SPIRITS AT WORK IN THE DESERT???

Introducing "DESERT SPIRIT BLOOM" (Mixed-Media, 12"x16"x1.5"). Many of my works have stories behind them and how this one came to be certainly does!  This past winter, I was commissioned to do several pieces with a Southwest Judaica theme.  The concept for the first piece came about very quickly, but the second piece took a lot of brainstorming and conversation between the customers and myself.  Hamsas blooming from a cactus was one of the ideas, but we mutually agreed that this was not meant to be and chose another concept for the second piece.

Personally, I was intrigued by the concept and decided to work on it further.  To explain, the Hamsa is an ancient Middle Eastern amulet symbolizing the Hand of God. In all faiths it is considered a protective sign, bringing happiness, health, and good fortune to its owner; revered by some followers of Jewish mysticism.

I worked up the commission pieces, as well as the Hamsa piece in my computer and went to print the transparencies for the alcohol transfers ….. and this is where things got “interesting”.  The commission pieces printed up beautifully on the first try but the Hamsa piece came out blank.  I was puzzled as this has never happened to me before.  I tried different formats and printers and even uninstalled/reinstalled one printer; still to come out blank and starting to wonder if the spirits were at work!

Not being one to back down from a challenge, I decided to go back to square one with the original image and work the piece up again.  Feeling blessed, this time the image printed on to the transparency and "DESERT SPIRIT BLOOM" is the result.  Scientifically, I’m guessing the first file was probably corrupt, but I am still left wondering.....
